Yuma is a city located in the south western section of the state of Arizona.
The city is located in and is the county seat of Yuma County.
The city was first established outside a fort called Fort Yuma. The town was first called Colorado City, after the Colorado River.
In 1858 the city changed its name to Arizona City. In 1873 the city's name was once again changed, this time to Yuma.
Yuma has extremely hot summers and mild winters. It is considered one of the hottest cities in the United States.
On July 28, 1995 the city reached it's highest recorded temperature of 124°F (51°C).
As of 2008, the estimated population of Yuma was 90,041. The Yuma Metropolitan Statistical Area has an estimated population of 194,322.
Yuma borders California to the west and Mexico to the south.
